Knitting Podcast, Episode 8: Comfort Knitting + Dyeing with Avocados

Welcome! It’s been a heck of a month. In this episode I talk about the Natural Dye KAL, and share some of the beautiful FO’s that have been shared on both Ravelry and Instagram. And while I don’t accomplish much in the way of knitting because I’ve been so sick, I did manage to unravel a sweater that has been glaring at me from my closet for the past three years. It was very therapeutic.

One thing that I forgot to mention in the video was how much I appreciate everyone’s comments in the last video about the article I shared about superwash wool in the United States. It has been so interesting to get everyone’s perspective.

Finished Objects (11:15)
-Walnut Socks

Works in Progress (12:28)
-Matt’s Socks
-Fir Socks
-Tales from the Isle of Purbeck Shawl
-Aures Minikin

Botanical Dyeing (26:41)

Crafternoon Treats Crochet Podcast 52: Natural Dyeing (Special edition)

Welcome to a special edition of the Crafternoon Treats Crochet podcast 😃 This episode is all about natural dyeing using plant extracts made at home. I recorded my natural dye day on April 19th 2018, and I show what happened in the dyepots then reveal the lovely colours of the freshly washed and dried yarn. I used onion skins (red and brown), spinach, daffodil heads (from dead-heading), avocado pits and skins, black turtle beans, tea and cherry bark then experimented with iron and copper salts as modifiers.

The results are soft muted colours – but there are a few surprises.

If you try out natural dyeing yourself please tag your pics on instagram with the hashtag #naturaldyecrafternoon so I can see your results too! Have fun!

I’ll be adding some information about natural dyeing at home on my blog in the next week or so – see www.crafternoontreats.com. The show notes will be published later today (April 23rd). The show notes are here http://crafternoontreats.com/natural-dyeing-podcast-special/
